MEMORIAL WALL & HEALING STORIES

Community Memorial Wall & Healing Stories

This page is a living remembrance. Each month, we honor one member of our community, their story, their healing journey, and the loved one they carry in their heart. This is a place where names are spoken, love is witnessed, and grief is held gently.

Grief deserves to be seen. Stories deserve to be honored. Loved ones deserve to be remembered.

This memorial page exists to:
• Preserve our community’s stories
• Honor our loved ones and pets who have passed.
• Reflect the strength of shared healing.
• Create a legacy of compassion and remembrance.

You are not alone here.

Remembering Barbara Ann Michels

Community Member Note: Aaron Harris
"

My nana brought so much love and support to my life. Theres a million words i could say. Parts of me regret not spending time with you in your final moments given how close we were but being able to light my candles for you and know you are with Grandpa Michels, Grandma Mikey, Aunt Amy, Uncle Carl, Buffy, Areo, Molly, and all of our other loved ones and ancestors makes me feel okay. I love you and always will light my candle when i need you closer. Where you are there is no pain. There is no suffering. You can now relax and feel at ease in your body again and I hope that your transition has gone smoothly and that aunt Amy was there to give you that hug you you have been longing for since her passing. You were surrounded by love and lived a life of love,  giving, and nurturing. My thoughts and the voices are quiet.I love you with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck Nana. May Heaven and Healing provide you comfort and rest.

A Life Dedicated to Family & Public Service:

Barbara Ann Michels, 75, of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren, on September 27, 2024. Born on August 3, 1949 in Iowa, she moved to California with her parents and older brother at age four. She spent her childhood years living on Trinity Drive in Ventura, where she made lifelong friends and created memories while playing about in the neighborhood. She attended Blanche Reynolds Elementary School and graduated from Ventura High School in 1967. Barbara attended Ventura Community College and Sawyer Business School. She dedicated her life to public service, working over 25 years with the County of Ventura as an Administrative Assistant within the Mental Health Department and over 15 years with the Community College District, touching lives at Moorpark Community College, Oxnard Community College, and Ventura Community College. In retirement, she continued to give back, volunteering in the classroom her daughter Eva taught in and with the Red Cross Center at Port Hueneme. Barbara was a beloved figure in her community, known for her happy, loving nature and the genuine care she showed to all. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, and enjoyed baking, cooking, and shopping. Barbara's warmth and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Barbara is survived by her husband, Tony Pico; daughter, Eva McGinley Harris of Ventura; six grandchildren, Aaron, Tatum, Mason, Jacob, Nicholas, and Annika, all of Ventura; brother, Bob Michels of Ventura; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eva Michels; younger brother, Carl Michels; and daughter, Amy McGinley Avelar. She will be missed by many relatives and lifelong friends.
